News Flash! I just posted the video announcing that at the end of this month Indy Mogul will air the last regular episode of Backyard FX. The show that not only started Indy Mogul, won awards….blah,blah,blah….but also completely changed my life. It’s bitter sweet to be sure and in a lot of ways I don’t think it’s really set in yet. So today I’d like to reflect briefly on a crazy statistic I just came up with while responding to one of the viewers who couldn’t understand why we would be ending the show “so soon”.
In the 9 season (that’s 9 years) of Seinfeld they created 180 episodes. That includes clips shows and 2-parts etc etc. 180 total. In comparison, Backyard FX has create 276 episodes in just 4 years. THAT IS INSANE! Sure our episode were way shorter and could never compete with the genius of Seinfeld, but we made them…week after week a new show and for pennies compared to what the budgets of most television shows would cost.
I was just baffled by those numbers. 276 in 4 years compared to 180 in 9 years. I think it says a lot about the life cycle of internet television and the impact it has on it’s creators…and of course the people who watch it. I’m not 100% sure what it says, but it has to say a lot. No wonder I look so different from 2007 to 2011!!! The internet ages you! All I can think of right now is to all my web creator brothers and sisters out there STAY STRONG, remember that you better be making stuff that you love, and TAKE BREAKS!!! Seriously because Youtube doesn’t have “season breaks” unless you create them. What do you all think?
